The 2021 Year of the Ox bull run is coming to an end and the tiger is on the prowl. This year the lunar new Year of the Tiger, Tết, falls on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Year of the Tiger

People born in a year of the Tiger, such as 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, and 2022, are said to possess characteristics of being smart, brave, virtuous, tough, competitive, and confident. Tigers are also very energetic and usually enjoy good health, important during these times. Year of the Tiger may erase the misfortunes encountered in 2021, but the tiger must be cautious of troubles and accidents that may lie ahead. It is best to be prepared and vigilant.

This year Tet celebrations have returned to Orange County. For the past two years, the world has been suffering from this pandemic which have limited the lunar new year celebrations. The recent onset of the Omicron seemed like it would hamper things, but it looks like the show will go on this year. Hopefully Year of the Tiger will be the year overcome the to past two.

This year the annual UVSA(Union of Vietnamese Student Associations) Tet Festival, returns to its stomping ground at the OC Fair & Events Center for 2 Days, Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6. This is one of the largest Tet events in Orange County and general admission is $8.

Another large Tet Festival is the 2022 Tet Lunar New Year Festival hosted by Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do and OC Parks. This event is taking place at the well known Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. This 3 day event is FREE and starts Friday Feb. 4 through Sunday, Feb. 6.

Currently happening is the Chợ Hoa - Flower Festival 2022  at the Asian Garden Mall in the heart of Little Saigon. This is a daily event from Jan. 14 thru Jan. 30. where there will be lots of vendors for flower and trinkets in front of the mall. There will be a firecracker celebration on Feb. 1, the lunar new year at noon.

Many other Lunar New Year events will be taking place all over California and in Asian communities all around the world. Take a moment to be thankful for surviving through another crazy year. Be thankful for your life and the people in your life. We pray this new year will bring much health, success, and joy for everyone.
